βUpgrade Uβ
"πΌπππππ π πΌ"
Do you remember that song? It wasn't as popular as some of Beyonce's others, but it's actually one of my VERY favorites! AND I like a lot of her stuff!
This past week, I was asked my VERY favorite question by a suspicious gentleman.... "Why are you single?"
He had just complained that he's been dating for a while and he could tell why a lot of women were still single...My answer was "same" (Except about men) Then he asked me "the question."
The question gets irritating, and I suppose it's a legitimate question...I'm not entirely sure. My answer was, "It's by choice, and that I end up on dates with married men because I forget that you have to ask now, and that most men don't know how to keep a conversation going or move things forward."
The song, "Upgrade U", came out when I was married. However, it is the exact embodiment of what I have in mind when I'm thinking about a relationship. I'm always carefully evaluating if I can "follow" and find an "equal."
The song talks about money quite a bit, but Beyonce is really discussing building something with someone she loves, and playing her role, traditionally, while still doing what she does, and being herself. As well as, maintaining her sense of identity while supporting Jay Z.
This is difficult to find in the world. Sometimes you find it, and you can't get on the same page mentally and emotionally. A lot of times, I think men fear I'm coming to "run them" a bit, and the opposite is actually true for me. I am looking to just chill out, and be supportive while doing my thing, so I don't lose myself. A lot of my creativity is lost in grind mode, and I miss that about myself frequently.
