How long does it take you to clean up a mess?

How long do you stay hiding after you've had an accident on the carpet? 🤷‍♀️
In this day and age of customer service, customer surveys, accountability, and owning your stuff.....how long are you waiting to clean up, or clear up "a hair on a deal" or just a plain old good fashioned screw-up, or screw-over?
Whether it's clients, referral partners, business associates, or family how long do you take to "clear the air" or apologize? Do you even do it?
This is where I find the biggest difference between people who have core values, and people who have an image to maintain. People who have well-defined core values and follow them are rarely screaming "integrity" at the top of their lungs. They are just actively living their core values. Their integrity and image aren't questioned.
I personally am not running around worried about an image at all...that seems to work for me. However, I do have core values and do my best to rectify any sticky situations as they come.
