Teenage Mom

I got pregnant with my oldest daughter, Rebecca Lynn, at 18 years old, and had her at 19 years old.

I was a Freshman at Kilgore Junior College in Kilgore, Texas. I had gone to that school to audition to be a, Rangerette, because at that time they were a gateway to the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders team, and from there, I wanted to dance in videos. I had a plan!

The plan didn't go so hot! Guessie Nell Davis, literally invented girls' Drill Team at Kilgore College. It is historic and epic for Drill Team, even when she was alive. I was on a dance team in High School, and we never did a kick routine or ensemble the entire time I was on it. I was completely disadvantaged when it came to "slamming" my forehead with a kick. I eventually got it, but it took a year, and I was already pregnant with Rebecca. There is a social aspect, like a sorority, getting on the team...I didn't have that on my first time, but after being at the school a year, more than one girl wanted to be my "big sister" the next year. A slam kick, and numerous friends already...sealed the deal. Except, I realized I was pregnant right before school let out the second semester.

Rebecca's dad was a pretty big deal at school back then. He had gone to the school previously, and decided to start working instead. His apartment was a party spot. I had met Susan at school. She wasn't particularly excited about who Rebecca's dad was dating at the time...so she brought me by his place for a party. We got there late, and missed the whole party, but you know...I got to meet him in his underwear. Red, paisley, boxers. Would you believe I forgot all about him? I'd later meet him again, except this time a party would be in full swing, and that was that a couple of months into college. I got pregnant when I came back to school from spring break. The opposite of most people!

When I figured out I was really, really, pregnant....myself nor any of my friends thought Rebecca's dad would be the type to want to have a baby at all, and I had all these plans for myself. My friends and I looked up abortions at the time. They were $250. and Shreveport, Louisiana was the closest place to get one at the time. I told Rebecca's dad that I was pregnant, and told him our options. To my surprise, and everyone else's...he stepped up. All the way up! We got married after I took all my finals...which also happened to be Mother's Day I believe. My mother wasn't particularly pleased.

Fun Fact! I lived on the 5th floor, and the 4th floor was known for being the "Ho floor" Myself, and 3 other girls got pregnant on the 5th floor that year....I'm still in touch with two of them AND Susan! There were plenty of jokes about something being in the water on the 5th floor. My friend Kari is still married to Matt! They lived happily ever after! Even Still!

The names I had all picked out were Victoria, and Brooke. I didn't even pick out boy names I don't think. Rebecca's grandmother said if she would have gotten to have a girl she would have named her Rebecca. I was like, that's pretty...but nah....

I had a VERY interesting labor with Rebecca. When they layed her on my chest, a very magical bond happened. She looked just like a Rebecca to me. We named her Rebecca Lynn. Yes, because of the song, and two, because Rebecca's Dad's favorite cousin's middle name was Lynn.

Rebecca Lynn AKA Rebooboo Lynn

She changed my life forever, and for the better!
