That is a quote by, Kacye Dutton, played by Luke Grimes on β€œYellowstone β€œ Season 4 Episode 3

He was speaking to his wife Monica about their son Tate who wouldn’t come out from hiding under the bed. Tate had suffered the trauma of shooting an intruder who attacked his mother. (He’s 9 years old in the show)

I resonated with Kayce’s quote immediately & gave it an out loud β€œYup!”

As parents, mentors, and employers we can stunt those we’re raising or training by enabling or celebrating fear and mediocrity.

In this instance, Kayce pulled Tate from out under the bed & told Tate his worst fear was over. It already happened & was done. There was nothing to fear. He hugged him, & told him to eat his dinner & Tate did.

Monica was tip toeing around Tate sleeping under the bed & enabling, feeding & exacerbating the fear for weeks. Stunting him & letting him stay stagnant because of her own emotions as well.

Kayce pointed out Tate’s strengths & accomplishments, which perked Tate up and stabilized him & gave him confidence. It helped him see the man in himself! That’s the only way to do it!
